Community guidelines

These guidelines describe the kind of community Local Past is trying to build: careful, generous, and respectful of the people behind the records.

Share with care

  • Be clear about what you know, what you believe, and what still needs checking.
  • Add sources or context where you can, especially for dates, names, places, and family links.
  • Remember that family and local history can be personal, emotional, or disputed.

Be respectful

  • Do not harass, threaten, shame, or target other people.
  • Avoid posting private or sensitive information about living people.
  • Disagree with care, and focus on improving the record rather than winning an argument.

Keeping Local Past trustworthy

Local Past may hide, edit, or remove content where needed to protect people, respect rights, prevent abuse, or keep historical pages useful.

Signed-in members can use Report on an entry, comment, or photo. Reports are reviewed privately and your name is not shown on the public page.

You can also use the contact page for abuse, safety, rights, or urgent copyright and privacy concerns.
